Why a dedicated viewer?
When a WebP looks still, the animation may still be there
Animated WebP stores multiple `ANMF` frame chunks inside a RIFF container. A program can support ordinary WebP images while showing only the default or first animation frame.
This viewer checks the container itself. You can confirm the frame count, loop value, total stored duration, alpha support, and each frame’s rectangle even when another app displays a still image.

Animated WebP not playing?
Use these checks before re-encoding a file that may already be valid.
Photos shows one frame
Some Windows viewer versions handle static WebP but not its animation. Open the file here or in a current browser to verify it.
Preview or Quick Look is static
System previews can show the default frame. Browser playback is a quick way to check the animation without installing a plugin.
An app created a thumbnail
Upload pipelines often generate a static preview even when the original has frames. Test the original file, not its thumbnail.
The extension says WebP
Renaming a file does not convert it. This viewer validates the internal `RIFF` and `WEBP` signatures before trusting the extension.

Better color and transparency, familiar animation
Both formats can loop through timed frames. Animated WebP can use lossy or lossless image data and full alpha transparency. GIF uses a limited palette and simpler transparency.
